The New Flag

with 8 comments

All these maps have appeared over the past couple of days, like the purple map and The New Map with Jesusland and The United States of Canada, but as they say, “The Map is Not the Territory.”

To gain territory, you must plant flags. So here’s a new flag for the ideological island nation of Austin:

I’m not sure, but I think it needs some text. Here are some phrases I’m considering:

  1. I love it. And I vote for option B.

  2. I also love it… Our little island paradise in an otherwise dismal state. One suggestion though: Could it be “The Reality-Based DEMOCRACY of Austin?” The idea of our nation as a republic has become less-and-less appealling to me since the election of 2000. Even though the current election was a more accurate representation of democracy-in-action, I’d even like to see the electoral college abolished to make way for a truer sense of democracy…

Also, do you have a vector version of that flag? I’d like to print it out on paper at least. Let me know if you get some real flags made. I’d want one…

  4. This is way cool! May I link to it as a pic for my blog?

Right now I am using the UN flag, but even though I’m from San Antonio, I identify strongly with this statement.

    Thanks,

  5. Sure, link away. I could use the googlejuice.

I’m thinking of setting up a cafepress site for shirts and whatnot with that flag on them.

James, I don’t have a vectorized version of that file, but I may be able to do some gimp/paintshop pro tricks to get vectors out of it without doing it by hand.

How about ‘Reality Based Community’ instead of Republic? I guess Democracy works too. I tend to alliterate even when it means poor word choice.
