Proce55ing Experiment: Fertilization

Another sunday, another proce55ing experiment.

This time I wanted to make something more interactive, so you can click on this one. Clicking creates new sperm. There’s a timer in the lower right corner that lets you know when ovulation is about to occur. This is not to time scale at all, since I think real a real ovum only lives for 24 hours in a 28-day cycle. For this applet, the egg will live for half the clock cycle. Sperm are shorter lived. If an egg is hit 20 times before its time is up, it becomes fertilized. And occasionally you get two eggs in the same cycle, which is how my brother and I happened.

I’d like to make an actual game out of this one. I’m just not sure if the point should be to fertilize the ovum or to avoid doing so.

Should I attempt a new one of these proce55ing applet things every week?

  2. Yes! The object of the game could be to blowup the sperm before they get to the egg.

  5. O- I hadn’t thought of that. Hey yeah, the sperm could come shooting in periodically and it’s your job to bump the eggs out of the way. I like that.

  6. if they hit though i think their should be a terminal count where the egg’s got different layers and the sperm cells sort of have to wear down the outter shells in an asteroids sort of way. also if you impregnate the egg under a certain time limit then you give birth to a certain type of human with stephen hawkins on one side of the timeline and George W. on the other side of the spectrum. so as the sperm speed up the game is programmed to prevent the possibility of George W. existing and you have the control as to how smart the bugger is unless you’re bad ass enough not to knock up the egg. sorta in a ben stein sort of way you are making the most positive game possible i.e.

    1) most important is not getting pregnant
    2) if it does become ferilized even the game won’t let George W. Exist.

  7. I think you mean Stephen Hawking.

Right now the eggs do have a barrier that has to be worn down- notice it starts out thick but gets thinner every time a sperm hits it.

I like the idea of it producing different kinds of babies depending on what you do and the time frame involved.

Me: “do you want the short list?”
