Check out this DabbleDB demo video. It’s an online application platform, sort of like what I was hoping Ning would be, but light years better. It would be nice to have a desktop app that did even half of this shit.

I’ve been wondering how I can resurrect my Texas State Legislature web-scraping app but hesitate because I don’t enjoy all the spreadsheet wrangling involved. A lot of the data was in spreadsheets to begin with. Some was in RTF, some plain old html, raw ascii text, csv. Ick. Iiiiiick. DabbleDB looks like it would be a great way to slurp it all up into a unfied queryable resource. And further more it’s got great normalization features that migrate existing data for you as you change the schema.

AND they provide Atom API access to it all. I’m really impressed.

  1. That’s pretty amazing stuff. I’m looking forward to checking it out when it goes public. Looks like you can do a lot without actually writing code, even.
