- It’s like Guitar Hero but for porn instead of music.
- It’s like a pager, but for voice messages instead of text.
Great ideas, all of ‘em.
Voice Pagers have been around since the early 90s, but they had no store capability, which made them unreliable.

@Guy: I worked at a wireless billing optimization company that dealt with “voice pagers” - I couldn’t stop laughing when I heard that phrase because I thought it was a joke. But then they said, “no, really we have pagers that do voice messaging” , to which I responded “um, don’t they call that a *cell phone*???”
Apparently there is a market for such devices (and as you point out, for quite a while now), and they are indeed distinct from cell phones.
I still don’t know why someone would use one.

They sucked, you were almost never in a position to write a number down, I think actually they were cheaper than a digital pager, I think they were analog “radio” pagers, more from the radio phone timeframe. They didn’t “store” the voice message, you heard it or not, and you would then have to call into a IVR to retrieve the missed message. Maybe because you can’t page someone 58008?
